Size: 0.39 – 0.85 cm
Color: Silver or gray
Body: Wingless with two long antennae

 

Silverfish are mainly harmless, but they are really ugly. Silverfish are a grey or silver color and have a teardrop shaped body. They have several antennas, while they are mostly harmless to humans, they not great for your home because they can find their way into food.

Behaviors:

Silverfish like to eat carbohydrates, especially starches and sugars. They have been known to eat glue, shampoo, other dead insects, and dead skin cells. They can get into unopened foods.

Silverfish like to live in areas that are damp and dark. This makes bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and attics common homes of the silverfish. They are attracted to damp clothing and paper products. Most times people find silverfish in stored boxes and bags in their sheds or garage. Being nocturnal and fast, silverfish can go unnoticed for a long time.
